Legal Counsel to Euroclear Sweden

Euroclear Sweden is Sweden’s central securities depository (CSD) and is a critical part of the country’s financial infrastructure. Since its inception in 1971, when operations were conducted under the name Värdepapperscentralen VPC AB, Euroclear Sweden has been at the heart of the Swedish securities market. As part of the international Euroclear Group since 2008, the company ensures secure and efficient management of securities, handling daily transactions worth approximately SEK 590 billion.

We are now seeking a Legal Counsel for our headquarters in Stockholm.

About the Role

As Legal Counsel, you will play a central role in our operations, handling a wide variety of legal and regulatory issues specific to a central securities depository (CSD).

Your tasks will include:

  • Providing legal advice to the organization in areas such as corporate law, CSD-specific legislation, securities law, sanctions and AML, banking and finance, data protection, cybersecurity, IT, security protection, and other relevant legal areas.
  • Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements as well as legal opinions.
  • Assisting with EU and national legislative initiatives, including managing public consultations and supporting the implementation of new legal frameworks and other regulatory projects.
  • Advising on the development of new products and services, ensuring they comply with regulatory requirements and legal guidelines.
  • Actively participating in IT projects and ensuring that legal aspects are handled correctly.

You will be part of our legal team and report directly to the Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Euroclear Sweden.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is a qualified lawyer with at least five years of relevant work experience. You are currently working at a law firm, bank, or other organisation within the financial industry, such as the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen).

You have experience in some of the following areas: contract law, corporate law, capital market regulation, financial regulation, and banking and finance. Knowledge in data protection, IP/IT law, competition law, AML, and sanctions is also valuable and considered a merit.

To excel and succeed in the role, it is also important that you have the ability to work independently as well as in a team, negotiation and multitasking skills, excellent written and verbal proficiency in Swedish and English, as well as excellent communication and social skills
